Work We Have Done

Hank- British Lab

 Obedience & Gun Dog

Hank is the puppy on our Home Page on the far right.  He is a British Lab from Workingman Gun Dogs.  He came to CapeWest at just 10 weeks old.  We found humans for him that were looking for an obedient house dog and gun dog.  The Newly Weds made the commitment to Hank & he has added so much joy & laughter to their day.  He loves a water drink, he's wearing of inanimate objects but he has grown into one heck of a good working dog.  We are so proud of you Hank & his human for choosing CapeWest R&T.

Penny - Airedale terrier - Scent

Penny is an Airedale terrier.  She came to us at 6 months old for tracking scent work.  She was a natural for most part but picked right up on Heath's training techniques & has successfully tracked a few animals for owner since leaving CapeWest.  You can't look at her without smiling and she was such a joy to have in our home.  Keep up the good work Penny.

Indy- English Setter - Procured & Puppy Obedience

We search long and far for this picture perfect English Setter.  Chris came to us wanting to buy a dog & training for his Mom.  In my mind, Chris is the best son a Mom could have. They provided us with the specifics they were looking in a puppy -for example, symmetrical patterns in the face, a dog with brown eyes and a fully black nose.  We located the perfect pup in Indiana & had her transported to CapeWest.  She is with us working on basic obedience.   She is even more beautiful in person.  She is sneaky but sweet.  We are so honored to be training this precious gift.

Maye - British Lab - Started Puppy

Ms Maye came to CapeWest in July from a breeder which we have a long standing relationship with. In July, her training started off strong.  She is sweet and wants to please.  Her humans came out to met her and knew instantly she was meant to be apart of their family.  They contracted with CWRT to finish out her basic obedience so she would grow into an obedient house dog.   She spent a month bonding with her humans then came back to CWRT to learn to be an amazing house dog. That she is. In December she went home with her humans who love playing fetch with her and are ready to spoil her as long as she maintains her obedience training.  Our son even said "we should have kept her for our own.  During Maye's time with us we noticed she was experiencing  UTI. We got her to the vet and have been working with Riverstone Veterinary Clinic to help find her relief.  We share this information as an example of above all, the dogs health & safety is always our first priority at CWRT.  Being a smaller training facility, we feel it allows us to truly understand the dog and to know when something isn't right. Our friends at Riverstone Vet Clinic in Brock are amazing & move mountains to care for any dog in our care.

Crash Golden - Gun Dog Training

Crash and his family are just lovely, he was with us for the better part of 6 months to be an obedient house dog and gun dog.  His owners found us via google and was looking for a trainer that believed good house dogs can make good gun dogs as well.  Crash gained a lot of endurance out here at CapeWest and learned how to be steady on shot, retrieve and hold conditioned.  We miss Crash a lot but we are over joyed that we were able to aid in this family's enjoyment of their dog and hunting.  Thanks for choising CapeWest.

Ted - British Lab Started Puppy

Ted came to us with his litter mate Fox from our breeder procurement program.  On occasion a breeder will provide us a puppy on consignment for us to start training until their humans are found.  Mr. Ted here was a quick learner and got crate training, placing training, his name and recall down very quickly.   He went back to the breeder at 5 month's old where this time the breeder was able to find him a home in Georgia.   If you are breeder interested in our consignment program please reach out to us.

Drake American Lab- Gun Dog

This beautiful American lab came to CapeWest with one goal training goal in mind; retrieve birds.  He was rough around the edges but got the hang of it over the course of a few months. We know that working with his owner, he will become a machine.

Hank - Bloodhound

Hank came to CapeWest for obediance work and to learn to control his size a bit more.  He became really well at come when called and staying on place while here was here at CapeWest.  He was a joy to have with us.

Winston

This beautiful vizsla Winston came to us for obedience work.  Winston was shy and awkward when he arrived, for example when you went to put a leash on him he would fall to the ground and roll over on his back.  Once the leash was on him he walked with his tail between his legs and was not confident in himself.  After being here for 3 months he gain the courage he needed to a collar and leash on nicely, without peeing on a human. (hehe) And became well mannered while leash walking. Thanks for sharing Winston with us!

Max & Fox, Fox & Max!  Max is a American Lab that came to us for obedience training .  His owner new how smart he was but that he just wasn't aware of his size and power.  His owner set a good foundation but would take advantage of situations.  Max was on a leash and got excited about seeing another human and darted after them & pulled his owner down which broke her arm.  Instead of giving up on Max, she  called CWR&T and sent him off for training so he would become a more well mannered dog.  This picture was Max's (on the right)  first day at CapeWest.

Fox is Ted's littler mate (Ted is above) Fox developed litter mate syndrome, where he bonded with his litter mate before he bonded with humans.  We took a different approach to Fox.  We went at Fox's speed and timing.   He excelled in potty breaks and going in his kennel.  He trained us well.  We knew we couldn't keep him here at CapeWest.  Thankfully about two month's into Max's training his owner showed interest in owning Fox.  These two dogs played so well together and Fox needed a home with another dog.  Fox took right to Max's owner and the rest is history.  We are so greatful for this match!

Fox & Max

Max & Champ- Mini Golden Doodles

Champ came to us first via his humans from the breeder then to our house in the same day. The following week his human's purchases his brother who made the same trip to us. They stayed with us for their Puppy Start program & their humans came out every week to learn what to expect when they take their dogs home.  Once home with their humans, a few weeks went by & it was discovered one of their children was allergic to dogs.  To say this was tragic is an understatement. CapeWest was their to support them in any way they saw fit. They decided it would be easier to surrender the dogs back to us and allow us to find the dogs homes.  That we did.  We are still in touch with their second humans and feel so blessed we were able to facilitate this process for our clients.  We found amazing new loving homes for these guys. When your dog trains with us are truly committed to the life of your dog.

Cash - Great Pyrenes Doodle

Cash was here for our Puppy Start program, his human's hadn't owned dogs his size before and wanted a well mannored house dog. We got Cash on a potty schedule that allowed for a less stressful work from environment when he return from our program.

Dot - Springer Spaniel

Dot came to us for gun dog training & won our hearts over.  She is a regulator OG around here. She is a water loving fetching machine.   Heath prides himself in training this dog to retrieve while letting Dot be Dot.  And first and foremost a wonderful house dog & pet

George- LabraDoodle

Oh George, he came in like wrecking ball, like a Mylie Cyrus wrecking ball. His humans where about to give up the 2 year old or the dog and since giving up a 2 year old's is frowned upon they decided to try out board & training.  Thanks to a referral from  Champ's 2nd humans, see golden doodle story above, God just works in so many amazing ways.  After being in obedience training for 4 months, we like to say George has a new out look on life!  He comes when his names is called and sits nicely in a kennel when its time.  He places very well.   He has made major strides that his humans have decided to keep him too.  That is our goal at CapeWest to train dogs and humans for happy dog ownership.

Tilly - Golden Doodle

Tilly came to CapeWest for our puppy start program.  Tilly was on her best behavior for about 2 weeks then I will say the devil came out and we knew why she needed training. She nipped at the back of your feet when you were not looking & it hurt. We got her on a good potty schedule and nipped some bad behaviors before going back home to her human. She was so thankful we were able to get her on a better track to a successful life as a house pet.

Milly - Golden Doodle

If there was an award for the best dog to come through CapeWest training, its Ms Milly.  She was so well behaved and her humans were committed to the cause that this 2 year old is the only dog to complete obedience training in one month.  MS Milly learned to sit on a place board, this helps when guest come to a door or you just need to load the dishwasher.  She learned to walk on leash nicely and to come back when called.  We feel so blessed to have to had Milly in our program.

Nelly & Remi - American Black Labs

Remi & Nellie, Nellie & Remi - the female litter mates! While we have litter mates ourselves here at CapeWest (Gus & Tex) its critical dog owners are aware of litter mate syndrome and work hard to keep the mates separated during the first year.   It honestly doesn't even have to be a dogs littler mate & can just be a dog of similar age that will become more attached to another dog then it will looking to a human for commands.  These dogs joined us for puppy start and came at two different times.  This allow the owners some relief from two puppies at home but also allowed the owners to see different personalize in the dogs when they were separated. This truly helped the puppies learn to look to humans for commands.  Their humans were just lovely and so commited to ensure their train last a live time.  Thanks for sharing them with CapeWest.

Blue - Brittle Lab

Blue came to CapeWest to gain some confidence and learn a few commands that our basic obedience program provides.  His sister Bella a boarder collie also joined us but a few weeks apart.   He has been so nice to watch come out of his shell with a some boundaries and structure. He is going to make a well mannered house dog.

Buck - American Brown lab

Buck was at Capewest for gun dog training.   Buck wants to please which made training him in 3 short months a bit easier.

Sunny - British Lab

Sunny was at CapeWest for gun dog training.   She came full of energy & life. She left and retrieved over 100 in her first season.   Sunny's breeding showed true, as she shows very high qualities of hunting an area for downed game.
