About CapeWest
Our Mission: CW R&T wants to help families have obedient dogs that make well mannered house pets, sporting dogs or service dogs. Our love for animals and understanding what motivates them is a passion in our life. We have been blessed to create an environment where we can share this love and care of dogs with others.
We are located just West of Weatherford Texas, in Brock, TX 76087
How we started
In 2016, we picked up our first British labs Gus & Tex. Gus was sent off to gun dog school, as Heath knew that with a toddler at home in the city he didn't have enough time to train him. Tex, Gus's litter mate stayed at home with us. Gus is a natural retriever. Tex was just an obedient house dog. We would take our dogs out to baseball games with us. It never failed; Heath was constantly asked for advice & if he is a dog trainer? In 2020, we saw an opportunity to relocate outside of city limits and start a dog training business. We also started searching for a female puppy and welcomed Natty Red into our home in 2021. Heath has trained Natty from a pup to a gun dog. In 2022, Heath started dog training and by 2023 there was enough demand for him to go full time. In Sept 2023, he was looking for a started gun dog for a customer and found Roxy, who was just imported from Ireland. Heath's goal for our business is to have 2 females and having a started dog would be a great advantage for us since we help so many other during the younger years. In 2023, Natty also passed all her health clearances which made her eligible to breed. Roxy came into heat first and welcome our first CapeWest R&T litter in March of 2024. We will are excited about the opportunity to have 2 females producing amazing dogs that will make for obedient house dogs and trainable working dogs. While also helping any dog owner learn the best ways to motivate there four leggged mates to make good choices.

H. Cole Speck Jr.
Cole makes it all happen. He is always willing to help us with feeding, taking out and grooming. He has a natural knack with animals that we are loving watching him develop. He helps socialize all the dogs with his friends coming in & out or when we bring puppies to baseball games. He enjoys having a house full of dogs.
Heath Speck
Heath is the dog handler and trainer. He has a way with dogs & wants people to have happy obedient animals in the home.
Heath enjoys bird hunting & loved that he could combine that with his passion for dogs. Heath has studied the behaviors and traits of dogs to recognize when behavior correction is needed or if they are simply being a dog. After years of hearing pain points & desires he has finally taken a leap into the life of retriever training. His goal is to train to the dog's temperament & motivations. He knows so much about dogs, their breeds and what dogs require. He listens to podcast & reads books by various trainers to develop his own style. Heath has a gift from God that allows him the patience, the leadership, the sense to be able to talk to dogs. When your dog lives with this man for a few weeks, the dog will be changed for better. He still does one time coaching sessions but has discovered that the best environment for a dog to retain in & retain is living with Heath day in and day out. This will develop habits when commanded to at home will last a life time.
Heath is Chief of Operations & Obedience
Caitlin Speck
Caitlin moved to Texas in 2003, went to a rodeo & met Heath in 2006 & welcome Jr to their lives in 2008. While Caitlin enjoyed being raised outside of Boston, the one thing she will tell you she was deprived of as a child was, having a dog. One Christmas in the 1990's her Mom thought it would be a great idea to get a ceramic dog, well his legs broke before the gift was opened so we called him Patches. He simply sat by the fire place and never moved. My parents ideal dog. Caitlin loves dog, I love rescue dogs, I love to spoil all dogs. Over the years Heath has trained her well to command dogs to make good choices before she caves, most of the time.
Caitlin drives CapeWest Retrievers & Training's PR, IT, and is CFO & CTG -Chief Treat Giver.
Pesky Pole Speck
Yes, his name sake is the right field foul post in Fenway Park, but he lives up to his Pesky name more so then a solid structure. Caitlin rescued him when Heath sent her to the Irving Shelter to get an American Lab. They totally look similar! Pesky secures no one or thing breaches the perimeter of CapeWest despite it being fully fenced in. He provides daily grooming to any takers, human or dogs alike. He cleans up the floors & is over all general oversight of the operations at CapeWest.
